Associate Professor Julia Strand

Associate Professor and Chair of Psychology Julia Strand recently gave two invited virtual talks for international audiences. The first was for the Virtual Psycholinguistics Forum, sponsored by the Chinese University of Hong Kong and organized by a researcher at the National University of Singapore. In her talk, “Error Prevention in Psychological Research,” Strand applied human factors research from aviation, nuclear safety and medicine to make recommendations for detecting and reducing errors in research. The second talk was “Preregistration in Speech Research,” presented for the Open Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders Initiative, arranged by the Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia.

Students and Faculty present Posters and Talks at Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference!

Associate Professor Mija Van Der Wege and students Henry Edmonds ’23, Samira Gado ’24, and Amanda Lilienfeld ’23 presented the poster This Statement is False: Labeling Lies Don’t Help at the Minnesota Undergraduate Psychology Conference at Bethel University. This work was completed with fellow student and alumni Kana Hashimoto ’24, Miriam Freedman ’22, and Jordan Navarro ’22. Amanda Lilienfedl ’23, Samira Gado ’24, and Henry Edmonds ’23 also presented their poster We’re Just Too Different: Outgroups Lead to Underestimated Conversational Effectiveness.

Suhani Thandi ’23 presented the poster “What do monkeys forget when they forget? An analysis of episodic and semantic memory in cotton top tamarins.” This work was completed with fellow students and alumni Madeline Thall ’22, Moira Rankin ’25, Madeline LoRusso ’23, Shannon Liu ’23, Ellie Leon-Moffly ’23, and John Garay Hernandez ’24.
