London presents paper

19 November 2019

Justin London, Andrew W. Mellon Professor of Music, Cognitive Science, and the Humanities, presented a paper on “Musical instruments as cognitive extensions, or ‘Why our students suck at aural skills'” at the annual meeting of the Society for Music Theory. The paper pointed out that standard pedagogical practice in much music theory actually enacts a disabling strategy for our students, and suggested ways to counter this practice.
