The College strongly recommends that each department have a department curriculum committee (DCC) of students and faculty. Not all departments do, and those that don’t are missing an opportunity. Students have valuable suggestions and comments, and they are more a part of the department when they contribute in this manner. You may decide not to serve on this committee but rather to assign a colleague to it. How the students are chosen is for your department to decide. The committee can give input on course offerings, changes to major requirements, candidates for faculty positions, or whatever your department would like for it to do; it can be quite useful during a department review. Some DCC’s have prepared handbooks for new majors; others have helped the department update its file of reading lists, produce a newsletter, etc.
