Celebrating Our Employees

2 May 2024

Last Tuesday, Kracum was filled with people who showed up to honor friends and co-workers at our annual Employee Recognition event. This opportunity to name and thank colleagues completing milestone years of service provides an amazing snapshot of the enormous range of people who work together to provide a wonderful education to our students and make Carleton the special place that it is.

It is inspiring to learn how staff and faculty from every department of the College have dedicated so many years of service to supporting our students and mission. From the five-year cohort — which includes a web designer, assistant football coach, lecturer in art, cataloging and government documents librarian, and choral pianist — to the custodian and administrative assistant reaching 45 years, and the professor of psychology celebrating 50 years at the College, these colleagues represent many different areas of expertise but share an impressive dedication to Carleton.

When colleagues come up to the stage to be congratulated, we mark the passing decades with some college and historic trivia, as well as appropriate music selections. (I felt pretty nostalgic myself when employees hired in 1989, the year I began my own teaching career, were played out with Prince’s “Purple Rain”). Retiring colleagues are the real stars of the show. This year, the sixteen retirees represented a combined 510 years of service to Carleton!

I hope you can take a few minutes to learn more about retiring colleagues and other honorees by enjoying this video produced by our friends in Communications.
