Brigham and Women’s Hospital in Boston seeks to hire full time research technician in the Chai lab (PI = Li Chai, attending physician in transfusion medicine at Brigham and Women’s Hospital).
This is a full time, one to two year position, ideally suited to college graduates who want to pursue MD, PhD, or MD/PhD. The Chai lab currently focuses on a number of translational and clinical research projects related to SALL4 (an oncogene)-centered cancer diagnosis, targeted therapy, and transfusion medicine. Common techniques used in the lab include molecular biology methods (e.g. PCR, sequencing, Western Blot, plasmid work etc), cell culture (e.g. drug screening/treatment, gene knockdowns and overexpression), and immunology (e.g. flow cytometry, immunostaining). There is also ongoing work to optimize a new hypersensitive clinical assay using the Single Molecule Array (Simoa) platform.
Within the next year there will be opportunities for the technician to get involved in Crispr base editing for one of the projects. The research technician will help senior scientists in the lab to perform experiments and assist with data analysis and manuscript preparation, but depending on the interest and experience of the technician, it is possible to set up an independent project led by the technician after sufficient training. Experience with statistical analysis and college level biology courses with hands-on molecular biology training are highly encouraged.
