Pura Vida Childcare
The Pura Vida Childcare program aims to provide a fun and engaging environment for children to learn about making healthy choices. We hope that through these interactions, we will motivate children to take control of their own health, ask questions, and share their excitement with others. By providing children with an environment they enjoy, they will encourage their parents to return. In doing so, we will help to create healthier families.
Description
The Childcare Intern will work closely with the Pura Vida Coordinator to plan, organize, and implement Childcare activities in either the Northfield or Faribault community. This position may also include outreach activities in the community to increase Pura Vida attendance and participation.
1) Prepare for and provide Childcare activities during Diabetes classes, Pura Vida classes and other community meetings or events as needed
2) Coordinate Childcare dates and activities with other Childcare interns on a regular basis
Qualifications
Experience and/or coursework in nutrition, exercise science, mental health, public health practice, health psychology, or related fields is preferred. Language proficiency in English and Spanish is strongly preferred. The successful applicant must be flexible and able to work across cultures to foster a safe and trusting environment for program participants. Other qualifications include a strong participant-centered focus, self-drive, the ability to collaborate with community members, participants, and local professionals, and the motivation to continue a lasting and sustainable program in line with the HealthFinders mission. Self-transportation around Northfield and Faribault is helpful. College students are preferred, but high school students will also be considered. Applicants much be:
· Comfortable working with children of all ages (2 – 16)
· Able to work independently and collectively with the other Childcare interns
· Able to work and communicate with parents and children who do not speak English and are from diverse ethnic backgrounds
