The UMass Chan Medical School (UMass Chan) Summer Undergraduate Research Program is a non-credit, ten-week, structured research experience. The program consists of “hands-on” laboratory research with an investigator serving as a mentor, role model and advisor. The Summer Undergraduate Research Program is funded by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the UMass Chan Provost’s Office.

We support professional development experiences for current students, early career scientists and established laboratorians. As a recipient of American Rescue Plan funding, we have expanded upon our current Public Health Laboratory Fellowship Program offerings and have added a Public Health Laboratory Internship Program.

OHSU PREP is a one-year, NIH-funded research intensive postbaccalaureate research program. The focus of OHSU PREP is to support the development of diverse postbac researchers in STEM and enhance their transition to a PhD program in biomedical research. In addition to a year-long sustained research experience, OHSU PREP scholars receive individualized competency-based professional and career skill development and opportunities that allow for cultural immersion through interactions with near-peer mentors (i.e., graduate students and postdoctoral fellows) and OHSU faculty. We believe in breaking down the systemic barriers that exist in academia and provide the necessary support to all of our OHSU PREP scholars to succeed in graduate school and beyond.

It serves as a stepping stone from undergraduate studies to advanced PhD training in the biological and biomedical sciences. Participants engage in an intensive 10-week program designed to provide hands-on experience in biomedical research, together with guidance on how to plan for a research-related career.

American Heart Association Helen and Harold Shapira Undergraduate Scholarship (application deadline 4/1/25) Outside link
6 January 2025The Helen and Harold Shapira Undergraduate Scholarship was established in 1969 to assist young men and women pursuing degrees of medicine and science. This $1,000 scholarship award is given annually to an undergraduate student enrolled in a four-year Minnesota college or university and working in a medically related curriculum with potential application to patients with diseases of the heart and blood vessel system.
Recipients will be chosen by the Minnesota Scholarship Committee of the American Heart Association, Midwest Affiliate. Successful candidates will be eligible for a renewal of the $1,000 award for a second year provided they maintain satisfactory scholastic progress.
Deadline for this application is April 1, 2025.

19 December 2024With its affiliated site Beacon Clinical Research, DermCare Experts offers its Dermatology and Clinical Research Post-Baccalaureate Premedical Fellowship (https://dermcare.expert/premedical-fellowship/), an innovative two-year program designed to help college graduates gain extensive exposure to patient care and clinical research as well as technical skills (e.g., phlebotomy, vitals, ECGs, basic suturing) necessary to strengthen their medical school application in this extremely competitive environment.

The 2025 M-SURE program will support 16 undergraduate trainees for a summer research experience with mentors from an outstanding pool of faculty investigators engaged in cutting-edge basic and clinical research related to diabetes, endocrinology, and metabolic diseases. The funding amount for 2025 will be $7200, pre-tax, for twelve weeks of full-time work from May 27 through August 15. The start and/or end date of the fellowship may be shifted slightly to accommodate overlap with the academic year at home institutions, if necessary. Students who are currently enrolled at any degree granting university or college are eligible to apply. Preference is given to those students interested in a career in research. Although federal funding is limited to U.S. citizens or permanent residents, we will have a few slots available for international students.

The National Institutes of Health Human BioMolecular Atlas Program
17 December 2024Lisel (Elizabeth) Record ’92, Associate Director at the Cyberinfrastructure for Network Science Center has a paid summer research opportunity for students who are particularly interested in biology or bioinformatics. Lisel’s research center typically hosts one intern each summer, but there are many other labs around the country that also host interns. The deadline to apply is Feb 1, 2025. Lisel (recorde@iu.edu) would be happy to answer questions about the program. The Human Biomolecular Atlas Program (HuBMAP) is funded by the Common Fund at the National Institutes of Health.
