SUMMER INTERN POSITION
Job Overview:
The summer intern is responsible for overseeing recreation staff, program development and will provide administrative and recreational support for the Community Services office and program staff to ensure the overall effectiveness and value of various sport, playground and aquatic programs. Another focus will revolve around the planning and coordinating of community events and camps. The position demands initiative taking, effective communication and ability to deliver an outstanding experience for staff, participants and their families. This recreation internship is scheduled for approximately 20 – 40 hours per week for the last part of May, and 40 hours per week from June through August.
Job Responsibilities:
- Perform general office functions; emailing, mailings, phone calls, printer/copier
- Organize and handle staff paperwork and schedules
- Seek donations from Northfield organizations
- Apply for applicable grants and complete grant follow-up paperwork
- Support staff with on-site needs (equipment, updated rosters, timesheets, supplies, questions)
- Assist recreation coordinator with program and staff evaluations, follow-up meetings and wrap-up meetings
- Attend the summer entertainment series, Books & Stars on Wednesday evenings and take photos
- Capture photos and videos of each recreation program and then organize, potentially into a marketing video
- Move large amounts of recreation equipment on a weekly basis
- Support program supervisors and staff with on-site coach training if applicable to personal strengths
- Perform other duties as assigned by recreation coordinator
Job Qualifications:
- Evidence of successful related work or educational experience or future desire to work in recreation field
- Proof of excellent communication and human relations skills
- Proof of excellent decision-making and problem solving skills
- Ability to supervise part-time staff and program participants
- Ability to be flexible, creative, courageous and authoritative when needed
- Ability to self-initiate and manage personal daily schedule
- Willingness to work evenings as needed
Compensation: $13.08/hour
