Now in our 39th year, the Physics REU program at the University of Notre Dame provides opportunities for Physics students to experience research first-hand, under the direct supervision of faculty mentors. In addition, the program encompasses weekly research seminars, research presentations by the participants, development of a research logbook, writing a research report, field trips to nearby national laboratories, a programming course, a scientific writing course, ethics workshops, and ample social and recreational opportunities.
Previous REU students have rated our program very highly and voiced strong opinions as to how positive a summer research experience has been in their career decisions. During the summer 2024 program, a total of 28 students participated in research projects in the areas of astronomy and astrophysics, biophysics, condensed matter physics, high-energy physics, nuclear physics, and quantum materials. All these areas will be available for research projects this summer.
We especially welcome applications from women and students from groups traditionally under-represented in physics.
