REU at Michigan State

Each summer, the MSU Department of Physics and Astronomy and its research group soffer 10-week internships for up to 12 undergraduate students.  The program is funded by the National Science Foundation and Michigan State University.  Over the course of these ten weeks, the undergraduate students will work one-on-one with MSU faculty members in one of the research areas indicated as their preference.  Every attempt will be made to pair up each student with the professor and project of his/her choice.
Research projects may include the following sub-fields:
•Accelerator Physics
•Astrophysics
•Biophysics
•Computational Physics
•Condensed Matter Physics
•Low Temperature Physics
•Nanoscience
•Nuclear Physics
•Particle Physics
•Physics Education
•Psychoacoustics
The 2017 MSU Physics & Astronomy REU is planned for May 30 -August 4
Undergraduate students,preferably sophomores and juniors,who have completed introductory physics course sand have completed or are taking an advanced physics course are encouraged to apply.  The program will include a series of professional development workshops such as “Preparing Effective Poster Presentations” and “Applying to Graduate School.”  Optional weekly social activities include an excursion to Cedar Point and a relaxing canoe trip on the Platte River.  At the end of the program students will showcase their research projects at a poster symposium.  All students are housed in the same dormitory located a short walk from the department.  This program is only available to U.S. citizens.

ELIGIBILITY
Students will receive a stipend of $5k, full room & board, and $400 towards travel.
