Admissions has short summaries of each program on their webpage (see the Physics summary). It seems that there could be a better 4-sentence description of the physics major. To generate one, we’ve decided to crowdsource it!
If you’d like to play, submit a 4-sentence description of the physics major of 400 characters or less. You will then have a chance to vote on your favorite description. Admissions says, “As a page on the admissions website, keep in mind the goal of this content is to market your department to prospective students. Share what differentiates your department and will motivate students to study this field at Carleton over other institutions. This write-up should be concise, and focus on the department’s philosophy for teaching a specific subject area rather than highlighting class requirements or electives, faculty, etc. Each program area will link to the webpage maintained by your department so prospective students can learn more about each major and minor in greater detail. No links allowed.”
The winning description, chosen by the FaculStaff, will receive a fabulous prize. It’s possible that sentences may be mixed and matched to form a single final version. Submit your responses on this Google form by Saturday, May 18.
