Ross, Lisseth and Abhi spent the summer here in Northfield completing a survey of ionized hydrogen regions in a nearby spiral galaxy M33. They quite literally took a census of all the regions of ionized gas in the disk of this galaxy. By using information from emission lines of hydrogen, oxygen and sulfur, they traced the demographics of the galaxy by identifying newly formed stars, supernova remnants and planetary nebula.
