Sunspots
Our own sun is a dynamic celestial body, evident in the regular appearance and disappearance of large dark spots on its surface. These so-called “sunspots” are dark in comparison to the rest of the solar surface because their intense magnetic fields inhibit heat from escaping the solar interior, which makes them relatively cool. This talk explains what a sunspot is and how sunspots form, using the physical concepts of convection, magnetohydrodynamics, and solar magnetism.
