Advanced Prosthetics
Kyle Leichter
A neural prosthetic is any device that can be used to substitute a cognitive, sensory, or motor modality that has been lost due to injury or disease. They range in complexity from a cochlear implant (over 100,000 in use worldwide) to cutting edge prosthetic hands complete with tactile feedback. In my talk I will cover the basics of brain-computer interfaces, their application to neural prosthetics, and some of the methods of designing and controlling the most modern prosthetic devices. Additionally, I hope to demonstrate some of my own experiences working with neural prosthetics.
