As the new graduate student recruiting season starts up again, I would like to use this opportunity to make you aware of new developments in our department, which may be of interest to your advisees.
Foremost, NSF has just announced the formation of the first and only National Institute for Theory and Mathematics in Biology (NITMB), which it funds jointly with the Simons Foundation. Our department has played an important role in the launch of this Institute, which will serve as an international hub focused on developing new mathematics to solve fundamental problems in biology.
This interdisciplinary activity is in addition to the involvement of our faculty in other programs, centers and institutes, including the Northwestern Institute on Complex Systems (NICO) the Center for Interdisciplinary Exploration and Research in Astrophysics (CIERA), the Center for Synthetic Biology, the Center for Computation and Theory of Soft Materials and others.
We will hold a virtual information session for prospective students on Wednesday, November 8 from 3 to 4 PM (Central Time).
Additional details are on the department website
Thank you,
Professor V.A. Volpert
