Energy Club

18 September 2017

Hey Energy Club!!

We are starting back up again for this year!

This term we want to replace inefficient light bulbs in student houses to further reduce Carleton’s C02 emissions. How will we do this you say?

First step is to write a project proposal that will be read and reviewed by the Sustainability Office! This is a very important step that will eventually become the blueprint for the funding proposal (which was approved for $66,200 last year). There are several different sections to the project proposal. If you want to help, fill out this two question survey. (Click on ‘survey’).

Inclusivity

The Energy Club is a community that holds diversity and inclusivity as core values. We seek to be a team that helps Carleton College and the City of Northfield become more sustainable and environmentally friendly. We want to emphasize that all of the club’s activities are safe spaces, and members can always reach out to club leaders (and each other!).

We also want to emphasize that the Energy Club warmly welcomes people from all kinds of backgrounds and interests. We especially encourage people outside STEM fields to join, since we often need the help of other disciplines to carry out projects (like when hobby writers and English majors help edit the proposals!)

Climate Change and the Energy Crisis impact water, wildlife, my grandma, and just about everything. We need and want everyone on board to move society towards a greener state!

Last Year

I also wanted to say that last year we had great success! We hosted and organized our annual Energy Symposium, we worked with Carleton College to carry out the Energy Lighting project, which is predicted to save 155 tons of CO2 per year (!!), we helped develop  Northfield City’s Climate Action Plan, we made biodiesel fuel from vegetable oil, helped at a Farmer’s market… the list goes on, thanks to everyone here!!

Lastly, f

or our lovely newbies:

Who Are We?

Energy Club is a project oriented discussion group for students, faculty, & staff interested in energy conservation, efficiency and renewable energy, and impact on human society. Activities involve a community symposium, local energy initiatives, discussions, and much more!

We want to remind everyone that you can invest as much time as you would like with the Energy Club. We understand everyone is a student and also human, none of our projects should make anyone feel strained or stressed. Energy is often a fun, communal topic. Please talk to us if anything ever comes up!!

Excited to work with all of you,

Your E-Club Leaders
