  • Intern with a local company!

    Volume 25, Issue 20

Through the Northfield Climate Action Planning process, we’ve been trying to involve the city’s anchor industrial businesses who sometimes feel the community is hostile to them with regards to environmental issues. This might be an interesting opportunity to build bridges between local industry and the colleges, while also giving students a hands-on learning experience inside and industrial plant environment.

  • Apply for Kolenkow-Reitz research funding

    Volume 25, Issue 17

Purpose: The Kolenkow-Reitz fellowship provides research support for Carleton students working with non-Carleton science and math faculty at another institution during the summer or over winter break.  These research opportunities are intended to encourage Carleton students’ development as scientists and their exploration of mathematics, statistics, and the sciences as a possible career.

Eligibility:  Carleton students with a minimum GPA of 3.0 are eligible to apply for this funding. Before applying, students should have already contacted and discussed the nature and timing of their project with the person they are planning to work with as well as a faculty member at Carleton who can vouch for the project and its alignment with your professional development goals. Because the intent of the fellowship is exploration in STEM fields, priority is given to students who have completed coursework related to the proposed research, but who have not yet had a significant funded research experience (7 or more weeks). Please note that students previously supported through the Kolenkow-Reitz Fund (winter break or summer) are less likely to receive funding, but are still eligible to apply.

  • Teach Physics!

    Volume 25, Issue 13

This is the final call to become eligible to attend our Best of the South Job Fair on February 2nd in Charlotte, NC. Please forward this message to graduating students who would make great physics teachers in private/independent schools.

The peak hiring season for these great schools is now. We currently have many openings that our schools are trying to fill. Students should complete our online application now to become a candidate.

Our Best of the South Job Fair is a terrific opportunity for candidates to meet school administrators and interview for these teaching positions. We have a great turnout so far, but we always have room for more. The fair is free for our active candidates. To become “active,” students must complete our online application, be accepted by Southern Teachers, and interview with their Southern Teachers placement counselor.

Southern Teachers is the premier placement agency for private schools in the South. Since 1902, we have helped thousands of teachers find jobs from Maryland to Miami to Midland, TX. Don’t forget, our service is free to candidates! They do NOT need a teaching license or education major to be considered.

As always, if you have questions about teaching in independent schools or about our organization, please feel free to call or email me anytime. You can read more about us here.

    Best wishes, Austin White
