Grid Level Energy Storage
Before renewable energy can supplant fossil fuels as the dominant source of energy production, better ways of storing energy from intermittent power sources must be realized. This talk will examine four of the most promising energy storage meth- ods: kinetic energy storage, pumped hydro energy storage, electrochemical energy storage, and thermal energy storage, studying the physical principals that underlie them. In addition to how the energy is stored, the advantages and disadvantages of each method are discussed, including storage capacity, power output, relevant design considerations and appropriate use cases.
