Flexible Electronics
What if your TV could be rolled up into a cylinder like a poster, or solar cells could be wrapped around your house? These types of applications are all possible with flexible electronics. Flexible electronics is a wide-ranging field encompassing many topics and applications. In this talk I will present benefits and drawbacks for materials used to create flexible electronics, including substrate and semiconductor materials. I will also explain in depth the application of flexible electronics to making bendable displays including discussion of organic light emitting diodes (OLEDs) and electrophoretic displays (EPDs) which could potentially make a rollable TV a reality. I will also briefly mention other potential flexible applications including electronic skin, and potential for decreasing cost of radio frequency identification (RFID) tags.
