  • Summer research at Perdue

Good afternoon!  I am pleased to announce our first virtual Summer Research Opportunities Program (SROP) from June 14 – July 23, 2021 at Purdue University.   Download our Purdue University 2021 SROP flyer.  SROP is a recruitment program that is geared toward undergraduate underrepresented minority (URM) students that are considering Graduate School. The virtual SROP program will be a six-week experience, during which our office will offer a series of virtual workshops to help students develop skills and knowledge for their academic and research career. The overall virtual experience will consist of academic research, career development, professional writing and presentation development, and a social component, to help prepare your undergraduate students for a successful entry into graduate school.  Purdue University Graduate School cannot wait to help your students take their next giant leap. The application link for this year’s virtual SROP is below.  Students must apply by February 11, 2021!  Application Link   If you have any questions regarding the virtual SROP at Purdue University, please email questions to srop@purdue.edu or call 765-494-0945.

  • PIRG opportunities

My name is Julia Alexander and I’m with the Student PIRGs, a student action and training program that is active on more than 100 campuses across the country, from Columbia to the University of Michigan to Berkeley.

I just tried giving your office a call to see if you could forward internship opportunities to students in your department!

For the past 40 years we have been working on college campuses to amplify the power of student activism. We just wrapped up our New Voters Project Campaign where our activities shifted from clipboards to Google docs; and from holding signs at in-person rallies to speaking in front of virtual backgrounds on Zoom calls, we were still able to reach over 366,000 students to make sure they had vote plans and cast their ballots.

Can you forward the information below my signature to students in your department about our internship? Our internship is completely virtual and does not require physical meetings or actions in order keep students safe during the pandemic.

We’ll be reaching out to you periodically through the semester with important information and opportunities about our campaigns, if you do not want to be on our list please let me know!

    Best,

Remote Internships Available. Make a Difference this Spring!

Sign up to find out more about the Student PIRGs remote internships.

The Student PIRGs are an organization that trains students to run strategic campaigns to protect the environment, make college more affordable, and promote civic engagement. We have remote internships where students can learn valuable organizing and activist skills to make a difference on issues that they care about. Learn more about our internships here.

Colleges and Universities offer great classes to learn about all of these problems, and the impacts they have on our country and communities. However, it’s often hard to know how you can put that knowledge into action. That’s where we come in. The Student PIRGs are based on a model that has been helping students make positive change for almost 50 years.

Recently our students on over 100 campuses have come together to

    • Talk to over 360,000 students about how to register, how to vote safely and ensure their vote is counted to help reach near historic youth turnout in the last election.

    • Pass bans on single use plastics, like plastic bags and foam take-out containers in over 17 states.

    • Convinced the first 2 campuses and an entire University System in the country to sign the pledge to ban single use plastics.

    • Saved students more than $40,000,000 in over 10 states by working with dozens of campuses to create open source textbook programs like University of Maryland and UMASS Amherst.

As an intern you will spend 10-15 hours a week attending trainings, recruiting volunteers, and working on projects and campaigns that will make your community better. You’ll attend weekly trainings and run campaign events.

Learn skills, build your resume, and work with issues that matter. Apply today.
