Radiations is a weekly electronic newsletter published by the Physics and Astronomy Department of Carleton College. The deadline for materials to be included in Radiations is 9:00 a.m. Monday of the week you would like the information to appear.   • Optics and Photonics workshop

    The College of Optical Sciences will host the 5th Optics and Photonics Winter School and Workshop Jan. 6-10, 2020, on the campus of the University of Arizona in Tucson, AZ. The Optics and Photonics Winter School runs Jan. 6-8, and will introduce undergrads to foundational areas of optical science and their role in optics and photonics research, in hopes of encouraging them to pursue a career in the field.  The Optics and Photonics Workshop runs Jan. 9-10, and targets faculty from primarily undergraduate institutions (PUIs) as well as students from the Winter School.      Limited funding is available to cover travel and local expenses.  Please contact Marty Baylor (mbaylor@carleton.edu) by October 4th if you would like more information regarding the workshop and/or the funding opportunity.

  • PHAS Fall Picnic

    Please come to the Hill of Oaks for a cookout THIS FRIDAY!  You’re all invited, especially first year students.  RSVP to Trenne with ID # and dietary preferences by Tuesday (tomorrow).

    Let Trenne know if you can help with set up at 4:15 pm. 

  • Goodsell Observatory Open House

    When: Friday, Oct 4th
    8:00 – 10:00 pm if clear

    Details: View planets, stars, nebulas, and clusters, using a variety of telescopes.

    Where: Goodsell Observatory, Carleton College

    Join Carleton’s resident astronomers to view planets, stars, nebulas and clusters.  Dress warmly as the telescope domes are not heated. The event will be cancelled  if cloudy.  Open houses are open to the community and held the first Friday of each month. Times vary.  A schedule is on the web at http://go.carleton.edu/observatory .   If it is cloudy or partly cloudy, a final decision regarding the open house will be posted at that website by one hour before the start time.
