• Pick up hours in the department in spring!

Do you need a few hours to work in spring?  We need 1 lab ass’t and one grader for intro.  We could also use a Lab ass’t for E & M (you need to have taken it!) and one person to help with Astro 233 (you should have taken at least Astro 110, but you can chat with Cindy if you’re interested).  Email me at tfields@carleton.edu if you’d like to work.  Thanks!

  • Moving Physics Table

By popular request, we’re going to move Physics Table back to TUESDAYS for spring term.  Put it on your calendars now!

  • Through the Northfield Climate Action Planning process, we’ve been trying to involve the city’s anchor industrial businesses who sometimes feel the community is hostile to them with regards to environmental issues. This might be an interesting opportunity to build bridges between local industry and the colleges, while also giving students a hands-on learning experience inside and industrial plant environment.

  • Carleton Alum advertises summer internship in South Dakota with X

Carleton Alum Ester Gubbrud (Computer Science/Mathematics/Women’s Studies 2002) wants physics majors to be aware of a summer internship with X in Brookings, South Dakota.  In case your cluelessness approaches Joel’s, Ester told him, “X’s is Alphabet’s moonshot factory. It used to be Google[x] but became its own LLC a few years ago so it is just X now.” See attached job ad. For further information, you may contact her (ester.gubbrud@gmail.com) or the hiring manager, Christopher Waight at x.team (his address and phone are in the ad).
