October 14 (Thursday) noon-1pm, Olin 02
Andrea Lommen ’91, Associate Professor at Franklin and Marshall College, will give the talk Women in Science: Do It Your Way. Here is what Andrea says about her talk: “There is not a lot of overt discrimination left in science, which is wonderful, and I offer my gratitude to those who came before me, for whom that was not true. What’s left, however, is sneakier and more covert, and sometimes leaves me thinking “it’s just me.” But it’s not. There’s some macho culture left that I encounter, but when I calmly say “I’m not going to do it that way, but rather this other way that suits me better” I find that people respect my decision. So I hope to share with you some of those things I’ve had to say, and lines I’ve had to draw in order to carve out the life I wanted.”
After her talk, Andrea will be available to talk one on one with students in Olin 202.
