• Summer Research at Big Ten Universities

The 2007 Summer Research Opportunity Programs at Big Ten institutions is now taking applications. These are fantastic research opportunities for students from all over the country. The programs provide a fairly generous summer stipend plus room and board assistance.

The website says the following regarding eligibility:
“The program is designed to increase educational access for students from diverse backgrounds. Students from racial and ethnic minority groups and low-income, first-generation students are especially encouraged to apply.

Eligible students must meet the following criteria:

    • Be enrolled in a degree-granting program at a college or university.
    • Have a minimum 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale.
    • Have an interest in pursuing graduate education.
    • Be a citizen or a permanent resident of the US.
    • Be willing to devote full time to the program during the eight-to-ten week summer session.”

You can apply on-line and indicate areas of academic research interest and indicate which university campuses they’re most interested in (for summer research). They’ve started accepting applications as of Nov. 1. The deadline is February 10, you are advised to apply early to enhance chances of getting a position.
