  • AAPT Barbara Lotze Scholarship

    The American Association of Physics Teachers is offering two $2,000 scholarship for future high-school physics teachers. This scholarship, supported by an endowment funded by Barbara Lotze, is available only to U.S. citizens attending a U.S. school. Undergraduate students in, or planning to enter, physics teacher preparation curricula and high-school seniors planning to enter such curricula are eligible.

    Successful applicants, normally two per year, will receive a stipend of up to $2,000 plus a one year free AAPT membership, including The Physics Teacher Journal. The scholarship may be granted to an individual for each of four years. The deadline for applying for this coming spring 2007 is DECEMBER 1, 2006. Applications for which all materials, including letters of recommendation and transcript, received by this date will be considered for recommendation at the following 2007 AAPT Winter Meeting in January by the AAPT Executive Board.

  • NSEP Scholarships

    Applications for NSEP (National Security Education Program) scholarships are now available on line for freshmen, sophomores and juniors who are planning to study abroad in
    2007-2008. The intent of the program is to provide financial support to U.S. undergraduates who, through study abroad, will acquire skills and experience in less commonly studied languages and cultures. This highly competitive scholarship is merit-based and pays up to $12,000 per semester. Carleton students have been very successful at winning this prestigious award.

    The campus deadline for completed applications is Monday, January 15, 2007. Students must begin working on the lengthy and detailed application during winter break in order to complete it by the deadline. All applicants will be interviewed on campus in January.Applications are due in Washington D.C. by February 13, and finalists will be notified of awards in May 2007.   • Student Research Presentation by Stephanie Vasko and Lauren Milne

    Join Stephanie and Lauren as they discuss the work they did here at Carleton last summer. Stephanie will be discussing “Developing a System for Low Temperature Characterization of EuO Thin Films” and Lauren will be talking about “The Characterization of a Magnetic Field for Magnetoresistance Measurements on Europium Oxide Thin Films”. Pizza will be served for lunch.
