PHYS 339/340 Thermal and Statistical Physics I/II
Some of the physics course offerings are being changed starting next year. Two new courses that are being offered in the fall are PHYS 339 Thermal and Statistical Physics I and PHYS 340 Thermal and Statistical Physics II. By passing PHYS 338 Thermal Physics this winter, you will have done the equivalent of the first half of thermo/stat in the fall. Therefore you need not (and indeed cannot) take the first half. The second half is optional, though (of course) recommended. We will be arranging the material next year between the two courses in such a way as to give you a seamless transition into the second one. PHYS 339 is replacing PHYS 338 as a major requirement so all majors must have successfully completed either 338 or 339 to graduate. If you have any questions talk to Joel or Arjendu.
