4:20 pm on ZoomIntroduction to Neutrino Astronomy
A relatively new field of physics, neutrino astronomy describes the act of using neutrinos to observe the physical universe. Since the neutrino is a particle with no EM interactions and very little mass, it travels unimpeded through otherwise opaque objects and grants access to information otherwise inaccessible to more conventional methods. Over time, the field has confirmed many theoretical models about stars and supernovae. In this talk, I’ll not only give a brief history of the major experiments in the field, but also discuss what we’ve learned about the neutrino from them and where the field is likely to go in the future.
