• Physics Table: Activities discussion

All PHAS students are welcome to join department faculty and staff to talk about available groups, activities, and leadership positions in the department.  In the past we’ve had student leaders either facilitate or help out with groups such as:

    • Cosmos, the astronomy club
    • the IDEA team, a group dedicated to inclusion, diversity, and equity work within the Physics field of study and the department in particular
    • PUGs , Physicists from Underrepresented Genders (includes encouraging attendance at the national CuWiP conference)
    • DiversiTea, gatherings to host speakers, view films, discuss articles, etc
    • CARS, the robotics club

We’d like student input into how you’d all like to be involved in the department.  Do you want something social?  Something to help with professional development?  Something that builds community or works towards equity?  We can reprise these groups, adjust them to current needs, merge some, or come up with new and different ones.  Come to an open discussion to share your thoughts!  Meet in AND 036 at noon on Tuesday, Sept. 26th.  Lunch will be provided.

  • Research Symposium / Poster Session

All students who participated in research during the summer are invited to present a poster at this event on Friday, October 13.  To do so,  you need to register using this form by the end of the day on Thursday, September 28.  Please note that when you register, you will need to submit the final version of your poster.  You can find more information, including information about making a poster and a link to a video on poster design, on the Symposium website.

  • At the Sustainability Office, we understand the interdisciplinary aspect of climate mitigation and climate justice and want to establish and strengthen collaboration efforts between departments. Home games for the football season are starting up and we are looking for student volunteers who are interested in helping out with zero waste education at the games.  We will train the student volunteers to a comfortable level before each game.

  • Students!  You should know that 1) you can do research over winter break and 2) you can get funding to do it!  Descriptions and links to the application forms are below. The deadline to apply is October 2nd, so coming up quickly.

Please feel free to reach out to Matt Whited or Eric Egge with questions.
