Making use of the adjustable beds is very common. The bed on the left is set to its highest level to save space. To get an idea of about how high the bed is raised, take a look at the dresser in the left-hand corner of the photo. The dressers in each room have about four drawers. Note that the entire dresser fits under the bed at this level.
