Daniel Groll Delivers the Alice D and Fredrick C. LaBrecque Lecture in Medical Ethics
11 April 2024Daniel Groll, chair and professor of philosophy, delivered the Alice D. and Frederick C. LaBrecque Lecture in Medical Ethics with Erica Salter, professor at St. Louis University, at Boston College. Their two-part talk was titled, “Parents, Progeny and Power: Decision Making in Pediatrics” and discussed the basis and limits of parental decision-making with respect to various medical interventions. Groll and Salter also led an informal discussion titled, “Where Has It Been? And Where Is it Going?”

Phil 243 students to give class at Just Food Co-op
7 November 2012Students in Professor Jansen’s Philosophy 243 class Animal Ethics: The Moral Status of Animals, will give a class on the humane treatment of farm animals at Just Foods in Northfield. Having visited local farms, interviewed local farmers and taken an animal ethics course, Carleton students will present their proposals and invite discussion on what stance and guidelines The Real Food Challenge should adopt with regard to meat and, in particular, the treatment of farm animals.
