Is it easy for students to find on campus work? What resources are in place to assist in their search, especially if they are incoming freshmen and don't have the lay of the land yet? Thanks!

Students who are doing official work study will be assigned a job. If your student is looking for work outside of that, there are many opportunities that they can find once they have their official Carleton logins - different departments will advertise independently.

Our daughter is not doing work study but easily found a job that was recommended to her in fall of her freshman year that she really enjoyed. She added tours in the spring of her freshman year and this year she switched to another job with admissions. She’s been offered other jobs as well- it’s actually been ridiculously easy!

Yes, it is straightforward to find campus jobs. The Student Employment website may be of interest. In fact, according to it, 80% of all students have a campus job. Click on "Job Postings" on the left to see a list of some currently advertised campus positions. Still more can be found on each academic department's own homepage.

Note the Career Center also advertises jobs, but those tend to be off campus internships, externships (basically 1-3 week internships), and post graduation full-time positions.

Both of our children benefitted from multiple Carleton campus jobs that bolstered their resumes with marketable skills.

    I hope that helps!

Do first year students who are planning to do work-study typically use the job postings referenced above to line up a job over the summer before they arrive or does it work better to wait to arrive on campus to find one?

Thanks in advance for any insights you can provide!
