Hello again, families and loved ones! I write to you at the edge of a snowstorm that is forecast to deliver a few inches of fresh snow to campus. That might make you shudder, but rest assured: Carleton (and Minnesota) is built for winter. Even students from warmer climates know that a good snowfall is good fun. Expect to see pretty winter wonderland photos on Carleton’s social media for the next few days at least!
As we enter the second half of the winter term, I’m thrilled to be able to introduce a few current Carleton students to our conversations. Lejla Mehmedovic ’27, Carolina Cabanela ’25, Katelyn Harder ’26, and Henry Petrini ’25 have each offered to weigh in on your questions that might benefit from a student’s perspective. As they introduce themselves and outline the communities they belong to at Carleton, please feel free to ask them for perspective on topics if you (or your student) would benefit from learning more. They’ve all been at Carleton long enough to help you get a better understand of what makes this campus tick.
You should note that Lejla, Carolina, Katelyn, and Henry are here to assist parents. Your admitted students are already connecting with current Carls on Instagram!
Welcome to Carleton,
Adam Webster ’00, Director of Admissions
Questions and Comments
Hi all,
My name is Henry Petrini and I'm a senior here at Carleton College. I'm a biology major on the pre-med track, I'm the co-president of a volunteer organization in town, I'm a KRLX radio host, I do standup comedy, and I work in a developmental biology research lab on campus. I've also been on an OCS (Off-Campus Studies) program to Greece, where I got to take some courses in archaeology and ancient history. I'm more than happy to answer any questions you might have about anything I listed above, or anything else!
Hi everyone,
My name is Lejla Mehmedovic, and I am sophomore prospective Economics major here at Carleton. I am involved in many organizations, with my primary interest being to help disadvantaged communities. I am a Questbridge Scholar and Board Member, where I work with other nationally recognized scholars to organize events and workshops that help low income students, while also keeping students informed of campus resources. I am also a tutor for Waano, a local organization aiding Somali students with academics, and I tutor at a local elementary school. I volunteer for Paper Airplanes, an international English tutoring organization, and the Food Recovery Network. I am also a member of Women and Non-Binary in Economics. I have taken a range of courses here at Carleton and have explored many different interests, so please don't hesitate to pick my brain and ask me some questions on what Carleton has to offer!
Hi all!
My name is Katelyn Harder and I am a junior Psychology and German double major with a minor in Cognitive Science. I play varsity volleyball, I am president of our student-run organization called 1Gen (which is there to help support first-generation students and foster community), I host a KRLX show every term, I do psychology research, and I volunteer with the CCCE. I have also gone abroad on a Carleton OCS (off-campus study) to Vienna on the German Studies in Austria program (please ask me about it I love talking about that term!!). I'm more than happy to answer any questions people have about Carleton or any of the things I mentioned above!
Hey Everyone! My name is Carolina and I am a senior English major who spends a lot of time in the Ed Studies and Theater departments as well! I also take classes at St. Olaf, the other college in the area, so if you have any questions about the differences between the two schools, I'd love to talk about that! Outside of working in admissions as a tour guide, I also work in the theater building sets and doing sound design for the shows that we put on every term. In my free time, I am also captain of Carleton's Competitive Ballroom and Latin Dance Team! I spend a lot of time in the dance communities and dance spaces on campus and I am very passionate about them! I'd love to answer and and all questions about anything I have mentioned!
My son, who just enrolled in the class of 2029, has lived in Washington DC his whole life, so he does not have serious winter gear. We'd like to take advantage of summer sales to get the essentials. What are the key items you'd recommend to get through a Northfield winter?
