I’m the mother of Liam, Class of 2025 and am chiming in to share my perspectives on Carleton as both a college counselor and a parent. First of all, for 20+ I have worked in the field of college admissions and college counseling. I have visited hundreds of colleges for my job (I advise students and their parents throughout the college search and selection process) and Carleton is now my favorite of all of them! It is the perfect match for our son and we are thrilled he is there.
Carleton is a place full of fiercely bright and talented people without any pretension. The values of the community support the growth of each and every individual and embrace all different types of students. Academic development, social-emotional maturity and independence are all part of the experience.
In my son’s time at Carleton, he has taken multiple music classes, education studies classes, an upper-level math of computer science course, and a few humanities classes. He has shined in some settings and learned some lessons about time management, working ahead and seeking help in others. His wonderful advisor helped him find a job in the Northfield Public Schools. A peer encouraged him to audition for a sketch comedy group, Lenny Dee, and now he finds himself writing sketches and performing them. This term, he plans to host a radio show and take a PE class and this is all new to him. We could not be happier about his growth and the wonderfully supportive adults and peers at Carleton.
The town of Northfield is charming and the natural beauty of the area is stunning. The proximity to Minneapolis-St Paul is also a plus. Liam has gone to see Thundercat and A War on Drugs concert and it was fun
to see him navigate all of the details.
We just love Carleton! Happy to answer any questions.
