Hsar Sar

My name is Hsar Sar Lwin and my pronouns are she/her. I am K’nyaw, which is an ethnic minority group from Burma. My parents call me or Naw Ki Lay, Ki Lay Mu, or Ki Lay. And my advice for Asian students would be to show up to events and not just like fun Asian events but also show up for all of the other people of color on campus and events that they’re doing. And reach out to St. Olaf like clubs and student groups ‘cause they have a lot and they also host a ton of fun events. Another piece of advice would be to surround yourself with people who celebrate their culture and are proud of their identity, and also don’t be afraid to take leadership roles and be involved in like various organizations rather than just one, it’ll just give you a different perspective and like broaden your reach. And also, my last piece of advice is don’t be afraid to suggest or ask things from OIL or from your student orgs for better representation, especially if you are a minority within a minority.
