I was lucky enough to participate in three OCS programs during my time at Carleton! I could not get enough of educational travel. I went to DC with Steve Schier, Spain with Humberto Huergo, and Southeast Asia with Roy Grow.
Through those trips I made the best friends I had at Carleton, and met all manner of humans from a senior speechwriter at the White House, to my Mexican host family who’d recently moved to Madrid, to students in Myanmar and Chinese diplomats.
I learned about cultures and people living completely different lives from myself or anyone I’d ever known … and learned a great deal about my own capacities and limitations. I believe these trips played no small part in my personal and professional development.
