Ahoj all! Where to start?
Week four has been busy for us as we’ve visited psychiatric clinics, competed in trivia, attended a Czech movie night at Ken’s apartment, studied for midterms, and visited Český Krumlov — a charming renaissance town in the southern part of the Czech Republic.
Here’s the recap:
Our first visit of the week was with Prof. Ondrej Trojan who talked with us about the assessment of sexual paraphilias. One of the discussion topics was on Penile Plethysmography — a tool used in the Czech republic for diagnosing individuals with sexual paraphilias.
Next up was trivia night! Hosted on Wednesdays at a local café, team Pavlov’s Dawgs gave it their best shot and came in… well it wasn’t in the top five. But maybe next week!
On Friday, we chowed down and ran the reel! We watched In the Shadow (Ve stínu), a movie set during the Communist show trials of the 1940s. Full of mystery, suspense, and moral obligation; students throughly enjoyed the film.
Next was… Český Krumlov!
Our visit to the old Renaissance town had us snaking through the crooked hallways of our hotel, waltzing our way through the castle’s masquerade ballroom, sneaking our way under the stage of one of the oldest existing theatres, and tripping over the cobblestoned streets. Here are some more pictures from our trip!
Finally, we bookended the week with a visit to the Institute of Sexology where we were able to speak with Petr Weiss, one of the leading Psychologists in the Czech Republic, at the oldest Sexual Institute in the world. Our discussion centered around the diagnoses and treatment of gender dysphoria/identity disorder in the Czech Republic. We were especially grateful to speak with a former patient who explained his experience going through the Czech process of Trans Healthcare.
That’s all for now! More updates to come…
