On our second day in the picturesque little town of Český Krumlov, we had until 3:00 in the afternoon to do whatever we wanted. That gave us plenty of time to see the castle gardens, a couple of museums, and lots more.

For the second major excursion of our program, a tour bus whisked us away to the south. For two days we were able to wander the streets of Český Krumlov, a small town that has existed just north of the border with Austria for over 750 years. On day one, we learned all about the town’s history while touring the castle there.

On Saturday, September 29th, we had our first taste of Czech football at a game between the country’s two most popular club teams.

On Friday, September 28th, several of us traveled by bus to the city of Kutná Hora. There, we visited the Sedlec Ossuary, a pair of churches, and a medieval silver mine.

On the last day of our Slovak excursion, we put away our hiking boots to float peacefully down the waters between Slovakia and Poland.

On September 22 a group of 7 brave souls set out to scale Polsky Hreben in the High Tatra mountain range of Central Slovakia. They would return to Novy Smokovec nearly eight hours later.
