Carleton Off-Campus Studies Office is excited to announce two new programs in 2020-2021:
- Ecology and Cultural Anthropology in Tanzania (through Global Engagement Programs) in Fall 2020 (Program Director: Anna Estes)
- Climate Change and Human Health in Ethiopia in Winter Break 2020 (Program Directors: Deborah Gross and Tsegaye Nega)
Regarding what students can expect from the Ethiopia trip, Program Director Deborah Gross says, “You won’t look at cooking the same way, after our trip to Ethiopia. How people cook (their stoves, the fuel they use, etc.) has a direct impact on both the health of the cooks and the global climate system. We will learn from residents of Addis Ababa and Wolkite about the factors that influence their choices about how they cook, and the impact that these choices have on their lives. You will work directly to improve the availability of healthier cooking options by carrying out research projects designed to improve our understanding of the performance, usability, and impact of improved cookstoves.”
