The Carleton Symphony Band presents, “Music For The Dead… and UNDEAD!”

The Carleton Symphony Band, under the direction of Ronald Rodman, will present “Music For The Dead… and UNDEAD!” on Thursday, October 25 from 8:15 to 9:45 p.m. in the Kracum Performance Hall of the Weitz Center for Creativity. This special annual Halloween holiday concert is free and open to the public.

Described as “elegiac and eerie music for winds,” the performance will include works by Maslanka, Vaughan Williams, Robert Smith, and others; it will also feature musical accompaniment to scenes from F.W. Murnau’s 1922 classicc gothic horror film, Nosferatu.

Carleton Symphony Band director Ronald Rodman is the Dye Family Professor of Music. He earned his Ph.D. in music theory from Indiana University in 1992. His research interests include analysis of music in the electronic media, post-tonal theory in the 20th century, Schenkerian analysis, musical signification, music theory pedagogy, and wind band music history. Rodman has published articles for the Journal of Music Theory, College Music Symposium, and Indiana Theory Review. He has contributed chapters to several books on music and film, and is currently writing an article on television music for the “New Grove Dictionary of American Music.” His most recent work is a book, “Tuning In: American Narrative Television Music,” which was published by Oxford University Press in 2010.
