Professor Rika Anderson ’06 publishes papers with Carleton alumni
Anderson is associate professor of biology at Carleton.
Rika Anderson ’06, associate professor of biology, published two papers about the evolution of microbial life on early Earth with colleagues, including two Carleton alumni.
The first paper, “Abiotic sources of fixed nitrogen sustained early ecosystems for several hundred million years after the origin of life,” was published in Science Advances with Zhanghan “Tony” Ni ’25. It showed that ammonium sustained life for several hundred million years on the early Earth.
The second paper, “Biological use of molybdenum and tungsten stems back to 3.4 billion years ago,” was published in Nature Communications and led by Aya Klos ’23 and colleagues at UW Madison. It demonstrated that biological use of molybdenum stems back to 3.4 billion years ago.
