Professor Anya Vostinar ’12 publishes two papers with Carleton students

Anya Vostinar ’12, assistant professor of computer science, published and presented two papers with Carleton students and other colleagues at the ALIFE 2026 conference.
The first paper, “Endosymbiotic mutualism can constrain host diversity and evolved complexity,” includes Elias Hillman-Emelianoff ’27 and Ahmad Khalili ’27 as authors. The second paper, “Saved by the Symbiont: Environmental Stress Intensity and Endosymbiont-Mediated Stress Response Determine Evolved Host Complexity,” includes Camila Mendoza ’28 and Daya Tucker ’27 as authors.
