A group of Carleton College, Northfield High School and Northfield School of Arts and Technology (ARTech) students will present a puppet performance titled “A Battle Against the Forces of Apathy, Hopelessness, and Cynicism” at 12:30 p.m. on Saturday, May 8 in Northfield’s Central Park. The event is free and open to the public.

The performance will present an allegorical story inspired by and honoring the Supreme Court’s 1954 Brown v. Board of Education decision. Carleton will continue to recognize the 50th anniversary of the landmark desegregation decision with events throughout May. The performance, designed and directed by Carleton art students Kate Strathmann and Max Wirsig, features as its centerpieces three 25-foot-tall handmade puppets. These large puppets, along with many smaller puppets, have been made over the last few months by an all-volunteer group of students from Carleton, Northfield High School, and ARTech.

The performance is a part of the Northfield Community Day of Service picnic that also will be held in Central Park, and will be followed by a parade that will begin in Central Park and proceed down Division Street.
