The late Laurence McKinley Gould, former Carleton College president, was mentioned in a May 20 Rochester (Minn.) Post-Bulletin article titled “It began with a spark.” Gould visited Rochester in 1965 to give a talk abut the environment and environmental education. His message inspired a group of local teachers to found the Quarry Hill Nature Center.
