Nancy Braker ’81 awarded Legacy Grant from Minnesota Historical Society
Braker is Puzak Family director of the Cowling Arboretum at Carleton.
Nancy Braker ’81, Puzak Family director of the Cowling Arboretum, has received a Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grant from the Minnesota Historical Society to fund research on the history of the Cowling Arboretum. Support from the Minnesota Historical Society will allow Braker and a team, including a contractor and student researchers, to survey records in multiple repositories regarding Arb history. They will use the information in an upcoming publication celebrating 100 years of the Arb, which is the oldest arboretum in Minnesota and second-oldest in the Midwest. Carleton will celebrate the Arb centennial during the 2026-27 academic year.
The Minnesota Historical and Cultural Heritage Grants program—also known as Legacy Grants—is a competitive process created to provide financial support for projects focused on preserving Minnesota’s history and culture. This state-funded program is made possible by the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund using sales tax revenue resulting from the Clean Water, Land, and Legacy amendment created through the vote of Minnesotans on Nov. 4, 2008.
This publication was made possible in part by the people of Minnesota through a grant funded by an appropriation to the Minnesota Historical Society from the Minnesota Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
