Nancy Braker ’81 and Jared Beck ’14 give talks at annual Prairie Enthusiasts conference

Braker is Puzak Family director of the Cowling Arboretum and senior lecturer in biology at Carleton, and Beck studied biology at Carleton.

Nancy Braker ’81, Puzak Family director of the Cowling Arboretum and senior lecturer in biology, gave an invited talk titled “McKnight Prairie: A 50-year love story” at the annual meeting of The Prairie Enthusiasts, a conservation group working regionally in Minnesota, Wisconsin and Illinois. Braker described the work of Professor of Biology Paul Jensen (1921-2012) and how he influenced generations of Carleton students to work in the field of natural resource education and conservation by introducing them to the prairie landscape.

Also speaking at the conference was Jared Beck ’14, with a talk titled “Density-Dependent Effects of Fire On Plant Reproduction: Implications for Conservation and Restoration.”
