Eblen-Zayas is professor of physics at Carleton.
Melissa Eblen-Zayas, professor of physics, published a chapter in the anthology “Picture a Professor: Interrupting Biases about Faculty and Increasing Student Learning,” edited by Jessamyn Neuhaus, published as part of the West Virginia University Press Higher Education series. Eblen-Zayas’ chapter, “Reflect to Deflect: Using Metacognitive Activities to Address Student Perceptions of Instructor Competence and Caring,” explores how using reflection and metacognition activities in the classroom can help address the competence-likeability tradeoff faced by women in traditionally male-dominated fields.
