Marsha Harbison ’67 celebrates five decades with Springfield Symphony Orchestra

Marsha Harbison ’67 was honored in a MassLive Media story titled, “Taking a final bow: Marsha Harbison reflects on five decades with Springfield Symphony Orchestra.”
After five decades as the first violinist and assistant concertmaster with the Springfield Symphony Orchestra, Marsha Harbison took her final bow on May 2 as her three children and nine grandchildren looked down from the hall’s balcony for a performance dedicated to her late husband William Harbison.
The symphony’s season-ending program featured Brahms’ “Symphony No. 2,” one of the favorites of Harbison and her husband Bill, who died on Feb. 3. “It is such a joy to play such a beautiful symphony.”
“Bill always attended our concerts and was very supportive of the SSO,” she said. “We often played duets together,” both at home and at chamber music concerts, she said, adding that one of their first dates was performing quartets in the apartment of a doctor who was the rheumatologist for the New York Philharmonic.
