In his Ancient Greek Philosophy class, professor of philosophy Daniel Groll—inspired by “The Origin of Love” from “Hedwig and the Angry Inch”—told his students they could write a song rather than a traditional paper. Luisa Cichowski ’24 took him up on it, and has now published the song on Daily Nous, which “provides news for and about the philosophy profession, useful information for academic philosophers, links to items of interest elsewhere, and an online space for philosophers to publicly discuss it all.”

The song, titled “In Your Life You Have These Jars,” is about the argument in Plato’s “Gorgias,” between Callicles and Socrates over the place of pleasure in the good life.

Listen to the song and read the lyrics.
