Robert Lamppa, Carleton College Director of Energy Management and Senior Project Manager, will speak about his recent experience at the University of Oslo in Norway, studying energy planning and sustainable development, on Wednesday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. in the Gould Library Athenaeum. This event is free and open to the public.

Lamppa recently participated in a six-week graduate course at the University of Oslo’s Center for Development and the Environment. Entitled “Energy Planning and Sustainable Development,” the course ranged from energy efficiency to energy trends, sustainable production to eco-design. The class also included a weeklong field trip to various sites around southern Norway focusing on energy, industry or sustainability.

Lamppa was one of twenty students, representing eighteen different countries, which allowed for a unique international perspective on climate change, energy use and sustainability around the globe. Instructors, as well, came from a variety of countries, including Norway, Denmark, the United Kingdom, the United States, and South Africa.

As the Director of Energy Management and Senior Project Manager at Carleton, Lamppa monitors energy use and makes recommendations for higher energy efficiency. He oversees various construction projects and currently is working on a plan for the College to become climate neutral.

Lamppa is a registered professional engineer and a LEED Accredited Professional. He holds a BS in civil engineering with an emphasis in environmental engineering from the University of Minnesota.
