Alex Knodell, Assistant Professor of Classics, had his book Regional Approaches to Society and Complexity (co-edited with Tom Leppard, Equinox 2018) reviewed in the New Book Chronicle of the journal Antiquity. The volume considers the emergence and operation of complex societies at scales beyond the individual site, focusing first on case studies from the Aegean, then the wider Mediterranean, and finally drawing on comparative contexts from around the globe to reflect on thematic issues of relevance to all archaeologists working at a regional level. The book was put together in honor of Professor John Cherry (Brown University), which the reviewer commented on in the following way: “Cherry’s career-long emphasis on a comparative approach combined with the work of the editors brings some coherence to the plethora of places and periods touched upon in the individual chapters, and the introduction and conclusions draw out overarching themes well. It is certainly a fitting tribute to a sparkling career.”
